TUNE Twist Helix - Vultures
Relentlessly ploughing through 2020 with an onslaught of new music, Newcastle-based Twist Helix are gearing up for their second album in November. The post-pop trio released the singles ‘Louder’ and ‘Frida Kahlo’ earlier this year, and now they’re about to unleash their third and final single before the main event. ‘Vultures’ will be available to stream and download via Paul Back Music on the 25th September.
Few up and coming artists can lay claim to releasing their second studio album in just four years, in fact, Twist Helix’s creative juices have been flowing none stop since 2016, as they destroy genre boundaries time and time again. Their second album ‘Machinery’ is set to land in November and is without a doubt the most exciting project the band has ever worked on.
The idea of a single is to give an early representation of the full album, and ‘Vultures’ does exactly that. A racey blend of 80s electro and alt rock, Bea Garcia’s inimitable vocals shine through as she gives her take on current issues within the music industry. Featuring heavy synth work, disco beats and infectious lyrics that you’ll be singing along to in no time, ‘Vultures’ is a no-nonsense indie triumph. On their new single, Twist Helix added:
“Vultures' specifically deals with those in the music industry, whose relation to creatives resembles that of facultative predators and scavengers. With this single we wanted to say that as an artist you're in an inherently vulnerable position that makes it very easy to be preyed upon. There are 'Vultures' out there who want to feed off of you, your talents and then leave you with little to show for it. From our point of view the music industry exists to extract works from creatives whilst divesting them of a sense of their worth and their feeling of agency. Too many good bands burn out or cease to be because of dodgy management deals, paltry streaming revenues, and a broader architecture designed to place power in the hands of everyone but the artist."
Building an explosive and impactful relationship with their fans across the UK and Spain, Twist Helix have been turning heads since their debut album ‘Ouseburn.’ Their reputation exploded immediately and as a result they’ve played Stockton Calling, Hanwell Hootie and Blackthorn Festival, not to mention headline shows across Britain and Europe. They’ve been championed by BBC Introducing North East and Radio3 (Spanish national radio), as well as receiving a hefty number of highlights and support in the press.
It’s crunch time for Twist Helix, who are on the verge of something very special. Don’t miss out, be there for it.
