Mr. K. lives in Memphis, Tennessee, the home of the blues and rock and roll. He grew up there and was enthralled in the music scene, never missing the annual blues festival and seeing all the acts he could from folk singers to rock, blues, psychedelia, and jazz bands. He started playing back in 1964 when he got his first playable guitar, an Italian made Eko 12 string. His father, Pete, a Baptist preacher who did not approve of his son's musical tastes like Bob Dylan and The Stones, had owned a Silvertone acoustic that he (Pete) could not play and it was not really playable but it got Theron started. His parents had given his sister a piano, so he managed to get them to buy him the 12 string in fairness. 4 years later he had actually played the 12 string to death while his sister's piano sat idle, its frets were worn out and coming loose. So, he got a summer job and worked to save up for a Gibson B25 which is still "in the family". He played and just rehearsed in a few bands around town in his 20s lastly and most notably a band called Johnny Singer and The Hi-Lites, a 5 piece with 2 guitars, bass, drums and a sax. They did some of John's originals, Elvis Costello, Clash, Motown & Memphis Soul, Bruce Springsteen and such ~ quite an eclectic mix. Terry was one of those Memphis Antenna Club regulars. At 30 he schooled to became a computer programmer and stopped really pursuing music, throwing himself into his new career, although he has always had a guitar and/or a bass lying around. Now that he has found himself semi-retired, he has re-devoted himself to music and the cuts here are a bit of what he has come up with so far. I hope you can find something to enjoy. Don't expect a droning continuity of formula style because he does a lot of different things. He does music because he wants to and doesn't try too hard to please anyone but himself as is evidenced by the diversity of the cuts here and the other sites noted below. These are homegrown recordings and Terry plays all of the guitar, dobro, bass, mandolin, harmonica and tambourine parts as well as, of course, all the vocals. Occasionally he taps out rhythms on acoustic guitar backs... or writes MIDI drum/percussion tracks. I hope the music strikes you as honest, because that's how it's meant to be. And yes, some of it was designed to make you smile. All of the "cover" tunes are free downloads.
