Since their inception, TENDER have specialised in walking an artful line between the personal and the universal. The aptly titled new single ‘Own Up’ – out on the 27th August – could be considered somewhat a new dawn for the duo.
With two LPs and over 175 million streams under their belt, James Cullen and Dan Cobb are committed to connecting with their audience further with a more real-time approach.
Four years on from their first demos, the duo have decided to take things back to basics. TENDER’s early success came from spontaneity and fluid release plans. This barely-choreographed strategy allowed them to show the world their music within days and weeks of the songs being penned, something the pair plan to continue now, with new music set to be released frequently into the new year. Their hunger is clear.
One of the first new songs in this approach is ‘Own Up,’ a heady mix of electronic beats, pulsing synths, and ethereal vocals, perfectly showcasing the duo’s knack for creating introspective yet at the same time uplifting electro-pop.
Speaking about the track, James from the band said: “ ‘Own Up’ is a song about desperation, a need for love and affection no matter how genuine or real it is. You search for the smallest signs of it in a relationship just to justify being in it at all.”
