Tarsiers are haplorrhine primates of the family Tarsiidae. Although the group was once more widespread, all the species living today are found in the islands of Southeast Asia. They are also a band based in Cardiff.
Drawn together through a cocktail of music, floral shirts, and Jagerbombs, Tarsiers began gigging in April 2013. Setting out with an aim to make music that was interesting as well as fun they found themselves often building song structures less stable than towers in Pisa.
Nevertheless, on a rainy evening in the Summer of 2013 they recorded their first demo, leading to them being Bethan Elfyn’s BBC Introducing Artist of the Week on BBC Radio Wales, featuring on Tom Robinson’s Fresh On The Net listening post, and being played by the Best of British Unsigned.
Their second collection ‘The Solipstick Demo’ was released in February 2015.
“I thought that was wonderful… the whole overall thing was just rather strange but not in that kind of self-consciously strange way that some bands are… did lots of things I wasn’t expecting, reminded me of music that came out of German communes in the late 60s and early 70s for reasons that are rather inexplicable to me” – Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales
"imaginative and organic sounding jams, veering from rhythmic post-punk to the off-kilter realms of psychedelia and ’60s/’70s rock, all augmented by alluring grooves and imaginative arrangements" - Barrygruff Music Blog
“Tarsiers set is a potent distillation of freeform rhythmic post-punk” – Dave Owens, A Sound Reaction
