As Seckar, Ray Tovey blends synth melodies with almost-ambient chords, combined with processed beats and glitched-out guitars, to create uplifting immersive instrumentals. Taking elements of Electronic Music, Alt Hip Hop and Alt Indie/Rock, the Yorkshire-born Southern-based producer fuses electronics and live instrumentation, creating his own brand of melodic electronica, straddling the divide between Electronic music and Alternative Indie.
Having played in bands and worked as an engineer/remixer on releases for labels such as Mute Records, One Little Indian and First Word Records and artists such as The Haxan Cloak and Lost Under Heaven, in 2016 Tovey decided in was the right time to form Seckar, with the release of his debut EP Herewegobrilliant.
2018 saw the release of his second EP Routes, exhibiting a more ambient/electronic feel compared to the Indie-synth focus of his debut release, as well as engineering for Father John Misty &The Haxan Cloak and mixes for Sargent House artists Io Echo and Ioanna Gika.
In 2019 he remixed the Kanoo track Machine Without Horses, transforming the guitars and drums of the original into a glitched out ambient track culminating in an epic uplifting ending. The remix favour was returned later in the year, this time by producer/drummer Colossal Squid (Adam Betts – Three Trapped Tigers, Melt Yourself Down, Jarvis Cocker) providing a downtempo, psychedelic take on the the Seckar Routes EP track The Box and Whisker Plot.
2020 saw the release of the latest Seckar EP, The Constant, released at the end of June. Featuring the singles Helicopter Worry, Fantastic Watch Collection and The Constant, the release will be supported with a new music videos and a new live show and live dates, whenever possible.
