TUNE DG Solaris - Don't Need To Tell You
DG Solaris, the new band led by London-based musician Danny Green - known for his work heading up cult favourites, Laish - release two more songs ahead of their debut album. This new AA-side radio single shines a light on “Don’t Need To Tell You”, a joyous song about unwavering love; and the feverish, psych-folk tinged “Brother I’ll Ask her” which recalls a shamanic experience.
“Don't Need to Tell You” was written during Danny Green and partner LG's honeymoon trip to Peru where they co-wrote and demoed all the songs that would become their debut album, 'Spirit Glow' (out 19th June) – LG’s mellifluous vocals taking centre stage on the release, complemented by Green’s familiar tone.
“We wanted to release something unflinchingly positive into this very difficult time. This is a pure love song”, says Danny, of the first track.
A gloriously unusual song about a painful shamanic experience in Peru, “Brother I’ll Ask Her” builds from and atmospheric start before exploding into an unshakable chorus and developing into a trippy motorik outro. Moving quickly, with shimmering synths and a tight rhythm section, the lyrics recall a feverish time.
Danny adds: “This song is about a time I spent in the Sacred Valley of Peru, when I suffered a painful fever. I visited a shaman who brought me on an intense healing journey that led to a kind of rebirth. This is definitely one of the stranger songs on the album, and I wanted to express the feeling of utter confusion, disorientation and finally release.”
On returning to London from Peru, DG Solaris recorded twelve songs at Bella Union Studios with producer Iggy B (Penelope Isles, Spiritualized).
The result is a kaleidoscopic and colourful collection of songs, in which fans of Devendra Banhart, Broadcast, Dirty Projectors, early Animal Collective and Alvvays will feel right at home,
DG Solaris’ tours of UK, Italy and France are all cancelled due to Coronavirus and due to be rescheduled for next year.
