TUNE Matadors - Trumpet Of Conscience
Manchester based band Matadors is the musical project of a single mysterious man, who we shall refer to only as ‘The Matador’. Very little is known about this enigmatic figure, only that he spends his days writing and recording in his bedroom with the most basic of equipment.
This DIY approach not only shines through in the music he creates, but in every aspect of his approach to releasing music. He has resisted the pull of social media with no Facebook, no twitter, no Instagram...he has succumbed only to Soundcloud, where you can find an absolute treasure trove of 60’s influenced pop gems!
Manchester is steeped in musical history, and to this day the scene is thriving but Matadors feel like the city’s best kept secret. We asked the ‘The Matador’ to tell us a bit about Trumpet of Conscience, and he said “the riff is inspired by The Kiss Song, ‘Room Service’ and lyrically [it’s] about being young & skint!”. His straightforward approach to writing music is simply, “Get a good idea and record it”.
Without doubt, the simplicity of these songs take you back to a time when song writing (and the wider music industry) was less complicated. No time wasted in overproducing, over-packaging and over-marketing, just get a good idea, record it well and put it out - the songs are catchy as hell and one listen won’t be enough, you’ll be listening to the same track 4 or 5 times over before you’re ready to move on to the next!
