TUNE Dama Scout - Paper Boy
"Paper Boy" is the third song from eclectic
Glasgow/London trio Dama Scout, set for
digital release on 14 April via RIP Records. It
follows their September 2016 debut "Forget
It's Good" and follow up "All In Too", two
tracks which quickly established their
reputation as a "fascinating new band with an
overflowing box of tricks" (DIY) and earned
early support from influential UK broadcasters
BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio.
"Paper Boy" continues to explore Dama
Scout's diverse, hard-to-place sound. Lazy
drums give way to dreamy choruses before
the song accelerates into a guitar-led
instrumental and bruising end section, with
vocalist Eva Liu’s ethereal melody repeated
over a dissonant mix of growling bass and
trashy cymbals. The song was written about
imaginary friendships and lucid dreaming,
themes reflected in its harmonic shifts and
tempo changes: the band cite Swirlies, J Dilla
and Stereolab as influences. For the music video, Dama Scout collaborated with multi-media artist Nadia
Rossi, covering themselves and their surroundings with paper and paint.
This “RIP Introduces” release is one of twelve monthly instalments RIP Records are releasing by different
artists culminating in 12” vinyl compilation in 2018.
"Paper Boy" will be streaming on Soundcloud from March 30 and streaming/available to buy digitally on 14
April. In the run up to the release, the band play a series of support dates in London before heading north for
their first festival appearance of the year.
