TUNE CHAPPO - Hang On
Artist : CHAPPO
Single Release: ‘Hang On’
Label: Caroline International
Release date: 27th November 2015
“‘Hang On’ proves how cosmic CHAPPO can be, setting countryish slide guitars adrift synthesizer nebula and blasting the whole thing apart with a sweeping chorus that should blow minds live.” Entertainment Weekly
“The music is swirly and poppy — far more upbeat than the storyline — but that out-of-sync-ness somehow fits.” - NPR Music
‘Hang On’ is the arresting new single from New York based indie rock band CHAPPO and is due for release on Caroline International on 27th November 2015. It’s the first release from their forthcoming second album ‘Future Former Self’, which is due out on 22nd January 2016.
The accompanying video is strangely at odds with the upbeat vibe of the song. It follows a crashed space traveller from another time (played by frontman Alex Chappo) who spends his last hours wandering New York City among its millions of inhabitants. Stranded and mystified, he feels the magnitude of loneliness and awe as he searches for a place to expire.
It’s a theme that runs throughout the album which is a cosmic body of work exploring the abstract nature of time and the experience it has on the perception of reality. In CHAPPO’s world, the concept of time is twisted hopelessly out of focus.
CHAPPO were formed in the East Village of New York in 2009 and has since built an enthusiastic and rambunctious following. Splitting the difference between the guitar-driven psychedelia of ‘60s west coast rock and the spiritual witch doctor moonshine of Dr. John, they tour constantly and have supported the likes of Of Montreal, Big Data, Imagine Dragons, The Flaming Lips. They will be touring the UK in early 2016, dates to be announced in due course.
CHAPPO’s music has featured in a load of syncs including ads Apple iPod Touch, Macy’s and Sears and the TV programmes ‘90120’ HBO’s ‘Hung’ and NBC’s ‘Up All Night’.
