Writing his first song aged 9, Stockport-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Jack B Dawson grew up experimenting with every instrument his music-tutor father could get his hands on. Now, after years of adamantly teaching himself the guitar and crafting graceful mellow indie tunes, his music has featured on the likes of BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio.
Following on from this success, he released the euphoric single ‘Don’t Wait Up’ in February 2019, recorded by Joel Patchett (The Orielles) and mixed/mastered by Jim Spencer (Johnny Marr, The Charlatans). Discussing the difficulties of ending a relationship in the track, Jack said "If I could describe this song in one word it would be 'fantasy'. It's about getting away from it all and perhaps finding a little part of yourself along the way." 2019’s final offering, the jaunty ‘Mexican Scar’ continues to tell personal tales of Jack’s past, using a scar obtained from a childhood holiday incident as a metaphor for the scars engraved in our memories by those we want to forget. Featuring his best production yet (achieved by Andrew Raphael), RGM called it “bright and breezy and easy on the ears”.
His alt indie sounds are inspired by those of Arctic Monkeys, The Last Shadow Puppets and Catfish and the Bottlemen, but his profound lyrics are his speciality. An English degree and deep love for the workings of Dr John Cooper Clark and Alex Turner has helped Jack form his own intricate lyricisms which RGM has referred to as “golden” and “inspiring”.
