Born of Jamaican and Nigerian parents and raised in Ireland, rapper JyellowL has drawn on all three aspects of his background to create a sound and vision that sets him apart.
His subject matter explores the social and global problems that intrigue and disturb him - from weighty societal topics to the lessons taught him by his Jamaican grandmother on how to be himself in a world that wants to force you down one particular path.
Following the release of his summer single 'Medusa' (a stinging attack at false rappers and the fake nature of the music industry) and a string of festival dates that included a memorable Longitude appearance, he returned to the fray with the first track from the Me and Me 2 EP.
'Oh Lawd' - featuring a guest turn from UK star Aaron U.N.K.N.OW.N. 2018 came to a riotous close with an Irish tour in support of R&B superstar Nelly, critical acclaim for the aforementioned EP and two stunning shows at Other Voices in Dingle.
Named as one of RTE’s 2FM Rising acts for 2019, he has released two singles via Gentleman Records - the catchy ‘Ozone’ and hard hitting ‘Tek Time’, the latter of which featured on Spotify’s influential Who We Be playlist.
The announcement that ‘Ozone’ would be included on the soundtrack for EA Sports FIFA 20 and Volta Football soundtracks (making him the only Irish artist to be featured) has propelled him to a new international level.
Live shows last year included a debut London appearance as well as festival slots at Longitude, Body & Soul, Electric Picnic and Knockanstockan.
So far in 2020, JyellowL has supported legendary US rapper The Game on his Irish tour and, in March, will support Nelly on his European tour.
On Friday 28th February, he will play St. Michael’s Church in Ballina as one of the Headliners for Other Voices Mayo.
On Friday March 13th, JyellowL releases his next single, ‘On The Estate’. His debut album is set for release later this year.
